Why I Love This Recipe

This is my no-fuss, go-to cocktail when I’ve got a lemon on the counter and want something bright and balanced. It’s tart, a little sweet, and lets the whiskey shine.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz whiskey or bourbon

  • 1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice (about half a lemon)

  • ¾ oz maple syrup (or simple syrup, if preferred)

  • Lemon wheel, for garnish

  • Optional: sprig of mint or basil

Instructions

  1. Fill a shaker with ice. Add whiskey, lemon juice, and maple syrup.

  2. Shake well, about 15 seconds, until chilled.

  3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.

  4. Garnish with a lemon wheel and herbs, if using.

Notes

  • No club soda here—just clean, tart, and smooth.

  • You can batch this easily for a group. Stick to the same ratio.
