Why I Love This Recipe

It’s classic, simple, and just feels a little fancy—even if you're sipping it barefoot in the kitchen. I love the crisp lemon twist because it brightens the whole drink without overpowering it. It’s my go-to when I want something clean and not too sweet.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 oz gin (or vodka, if preferred)

  • 1/2 oz dry vermouth

  • Ice

  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill the glass: Pop a martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water while you prep.

  2. Mix: In a mixing glass, combine gin (or vodka) and vermouth with ice. Stir (or shake, if you like it colder and cloudier) for about 30 seconds.

  3. Strain: Discard the ice or water from your martini glass. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.

  4. Add the twist: Hold a strip of lemon peel over the drink and twist it to release the oils. Rub it around the rim, then drop it in.

Notes

  • Want it extra dry? Use less vermouth—just a rinse or none at all.

  • Want it dirty? Add a splash of olive brine and swap the lemon twist for an olive.
